Lee Roy (Doc) Blackstone - He died in 1947. He
was only 33 years old.
Doc was in World War II. He was stationed in
the Philippine Islands. He and some of his
buddies put on a rodeo for the soldiers. One of
the things that he did was bull-dog a water
buffalo from a army jeep. He was also a cowboy.
He was later in the Gilbert Islands fighting the
Japanese and contacted malaria fever real bad.
He was sent to the hospital in Hawaii and stayed
there six months. He was then sent to the
veterans hospital for about 4 months. He was
then shipped to veterans hospital in Houston.
He was able to leave the hospital several times
to visit the family at home, but, as he would
get worse he would have to go back. He died at
the Veterans hospital in 1947.
He was a colorful and loving brother. One of my
sisters said it best, "If you never knew Docy
boy then you have missed a little piece of
heaven.
