This indenture witnesseth . That James B. Arnold of Lavacca County Texas hath put and placed and by these presents doth put and bind out his three children Thursey Adaline Arnold, William Thomas Arnold and Sarah Isabelle Arnold and the said Thursey A. Arnold doth hereby put place and bind out herself as an apprentice to S. W. McMillan to learn the art trade or mystery of R M McMillan his wife the said T A Arnold after the manner of an apprentice to dwell with and serve the said S W. McMillan from the day of the date hereof until the fifth day of August which will be in the year of our Lord Eighteen hundred sixty four at which time the said apprentice if she should be living will be eighteen years of age and the said William Thomas Arnold doth hereby put place and bind out himself as and apprentice to S. W. McMillan to learn the art trade or mystery S. W. McMillan the said William Thomas Arnold after the manner of an apprentice to dwell with and serve the said S. W. McMillan from the day of the date hereof until the fourth day of August which will be in the year of our Lord Eighteen hundred and seventy at which time the said apprentice if he should be living will be twenty years of age and the said Sarah Isabelle Arnold doth hereby put place and bind out herself as an apprentice to S. W. McMillan to learn the art trade or mystery of R. M. McMillan his wife the said Sarah Isabelle Arnold after the manner of an apprentice to dwell with and serve the said S. W. Mcmillan from the day of the date hereof until the
Page 591 twelfth day of September which will be in the year of Our Lord eighteen hundred and seventy two at which time the said apprentice if she should be living will be eighteen years of age during which time or term the said apprentices shall well and faithfully serve their said Master keep his secrets and every where at all times readily obey his lawful commands they shall do no damage to their said master nor willfully suffer any to be done by others and if any to their knowledge be intended they shall give their master reasonable notice thereof. They shall not waste the goods of their said master nor loan them unlawfully to any they shall not play at cards dice or any other unlawful game they shall not contract Matrimony during the said term. They shall not haunt or frequent taverns tipling houses or places of Gaming . They shall not absent themselves from the service of the said Master but in all things and at all times they shall carry and behave themselves as good and faithful apprentices ought during the whole time or term aforesaid.
And the said S. W. McMillan on his part doth hereby covenant promise and agree to teach and instruct the said apprentices or cause them to be taught and instructed to read and write and cypher as far as the rule of three if the said apprentices be capable to learn and shall well and faithfully find and provide for the said apprentices good and sufficient meat drink clothing lodging and other necessaries fit and convenient for such apprentices during the term aforesaid and at the expiration thereof shall give unto the said Thursey Adaline Arnold and Sarah Isabelle Arnold each one feather bed weighing thirty five pounds and all their necessary clothing for said bed and two cows and calves apiece and to William Thomas

Arnold two suits of wearing apparel and one horse saddle and bridle valued about one hundred dollars. The said Nancy Victoria after the manner of an apprentice to dwell with and serve the said James Mahan from the day of the date hereof until the twentieth day of July which will be in the year of our Lord Eighteen hundred and seventy at which time the said apprentice if she should be living will be eighteen years of age during which time or term the said apprentice shall well and faithfully serve their said Master keep his secrets and every where at all times readily obey his lawful commands they shall do no damage to their said Master nor willfully suffer any to be done by others and if any to their knowledge be intended they shall give their Master reasonable notice thereof. They shall not waste the good of their said master nor lend them unlawfully to any they shall not play at cards dice or any other unlawful game they shall not contract matrimony during the said term they shall not haunt or frequent taverns, tipling houses or places of gaming they shall not absent themselves from the service of the said Master but in all things and at all times they shall carry and behave themselves as good and faithful apprentices ought during the whole term aforesaid.
