Jimmie "Pop" Garner Blackstone of Round Rock , Texas passed on Sept. 04, 2007. He was born in Andrews, Texas on Dec. 06, 1932 to Benjamin Joseph & Laura Ethyl Blackstone the youngest of 13 children. He attended Sam Houston High School & graduated from the University of Houston in 1952 where he was the captain of the football team his senior year. Jim was a home builder in the Houston area & was an avid sportsman who enjoyed fishing & hunting. He most enjoyed spending time with his family, friends & was truly his "brother's keeper ". His compassion for those he loved & his sense of humor will be missed by all.
He is survived by his wife of 55 yrs Edna Gay, brother Robert "Bob" & his wife Gay Nell of Huntsville, sisters Alice Hafner & Josie Bailey of Brenham, son Jimbo & wife Jane of Houston, daughters Debi of Round Rock, Donna of Bastrop, Genny of Houston, Grandchildren Ben & wife Yvonne of Elgin, Failth & Husband Mike of Smithville & great grandchildren Brandon, Samatha & Kaylin.
Our husband, father, grand father, great grandfather & friend passed away on Sept. 04 but his memories & wonderful personality had slowly faded away over the past few years due to the effects of Parkinson's disease. His endured the final trails like he lived his life with amazing resilience & an independent spirit.
A celebration of his life will be held at Champion Forest Baptist Church on Sat. Sept, 08, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. 15555 Stuebnea -Airline . Houston, Texas 77067. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Jim's name to the Michael J. Fox foundation for Parkinson's Research at www.michaeljfox.org .
